The pent-up hype for the Toyota GR Corolla 2023 is at high levels right now, and it’s not hard to see why. A rally-inspired AWD and a 300-horsepower turbo three-cylinder are just tips for the iceberg of this hot hatch. Therefore, it is not surprising that many enthusiasts diligently check their bank accounts and calendars until it arrives. And according to a new leak, the GR Corolla launch date may come sooner than you expect.
Alleged dealership memo just leaked 2023 Toyota GR Corolla release date
When Toyota officially revealed the 2023 GR Corolla a few months ago, it didn’t mention an exact release date. He’s said that the base model, the base grade, will arrive sometime later in 2022, with a Circuit release in 2023. However, a leaked memo may have just put the GR Corolla’s release timeline into a much clearer focus.
A few days ago, GR user Corolla Forum posted a screenshot of an alleged internal agency memo, Motor1 reports. The supposed note lists when the 2023 Toyota vehicles are supposed to arrive at the dealership, which has not been named. According to the memo, the 2023 GR Corolla will arrive in dealerships in October alongside the regular 2023 Corolla Hatchback.
As of this writing, Toyota has not commented on the authenticity of the memo. However, a Toyota spokesperson told Motor1 that the company “cannot confirm the sale at this time.”
This is a typical response in these situations, although supply chain issues have delayed other launches lately, it’s a valid response. But at least, the memo details generally line up with claims for Toyota’s initial GR Corolla release date. Model year changes usually happen in fall or winter anyway, so the arrival of October makes sense.

No matter what the release date claims, enthusiasts may want to start keeping up if they want a first-year Toyota GR Corolla. Even if you ignore the hardcore Morizo Edition, it’s hard to find a hotter Corolla Hatchback. Because Toyota makes the GR Corolla by hand, annual production will be limited, at least in its first year. The company only plans to offer about 6,500 models in the US for 2023, 1,500 of which are Circuit Editions.
As of this writing, the hot slot is not yet sold out. However, the company recently told dealers to be careful about taking deposits, so there are enough GR Corollas to go around. This does not necessarily mean that your local Toyota dealership will not receive a share of the GR Corolla. But it is worth noting that there are approximately 1,500 Toyota and Lexus dealerships in the United States, so, your local Toyota dealership may only get a top of the circuit version.

Besides not giving an official release date, Toyota has also not revealed the official price for the 2023 GR Corolla yet. We do know, though, that the price of the Core Grade will be competitive with competitors like the Golf R and Civic Type R. That roughly puts it in the $35,000-$40,000 range. The Circuit Edition, with its carbon fiber roof, larger spoiler and Brin Naub sports seats, will undoubtedly cost more.
As for whether the Toyota Corolla 2023 is worth it, depends on how you drive it. And even if the wait seems like an eternity, driving opportunities will soon come.
